Why we Love this Cherry Mango Popsicle Recipe
What’s not to love about a cold treat on a hot summer day? Here are just some of the reasons why we keep going for seconds on this sweet treat:
- Fun for the whole family: These cherry mango popsicles are great to make with the kids! I let them do the pouring and timing to add the next layers. The best part is watching them whine while they wait for it to freeze. Mommy, is it hard now? Ask my 4-year-old every 30 minutes.
- Stash it up: These ice pops disappear quickly around here, so I double the recipe and store them for later. See my storage guide in the recipe faq section below.
- Healthy ingredients: Mangoes, cherries, and plain yogurt provide numerous health benefits, including boosted immunity, improved digestion, heart health, reduced inflammation, better sleep, and enhanced gut health.
📃Ingredient Description
- Cherries: Juicy and sweet cherries add flavor and vibrant color to your popsicles. Pit the cherries before blending to ensure a smooth mixture.
- Mangoes: use fresh, firm, ripe, and peeled mangoes. Mangoes add both color and sweetness to these ice pops.
- Yogurt: Opt for full-fat yogurt like Greek yogurt. It adds a thick, creamy texture and a healthy dose of probiotics for gut health.
- Honey is used for sweetness, and it helps balance the tartness of the yogurt and fruits.
Please refer to the recipe card for the exact measurements.
💭Variations and Substitutions
- Sweetener: Enjoy the pops as is, or use superfine sugar or other sweeteners.
- Yogurt: You can use different flavors of yogurt instead of Greek yogurt. If you do, make sure to adjust the sweetener accordingly.
- Frozen fruits: If you can't find fresh fruits, especially cherries (seasonal), you can use frozen fruits and adjust the amount of liquid.
📝Step-by-Step Instructions
Detailed instructions are outlined in the recipe card below, but here are a few steps with visuals to guide you:
Step 1: Add the mango and honey to a blender bowl. Blend until it’s puréed.
Step 2: Add the cherry and honey to a blender bowl. Blend until fully blended.
Step 3: Whisk together the yogurt with honey in a medium bowl to remove any lumps.
Step 4: Alternate the flavors. Pour in the mango layer in the molds, then chill. Add the yogurt layer, and chill.
Step 5: Pour in the cherry layer, then cover the molds.
Step 6: Freeze for 6 hours or until the popsicles are firm. Remove the popsicles from the freezer and place the bottom under running water while they are still covered. Lift the popsicle sticks and enjoy!

👩🏽🍳Maur's Tips
- While I used fresh fruits, frozen fruits will work just as well. You may need to add a tablespoon or two of liquid to the blender to help it blend smoothly. I advise against using frozen fruits due to the potential for ice crystal formation.
- If you have any remaining mixture, cover it, refrigerate it overnight, and then use it to make more popsicles.
- A pinch of salt helps enhance the fruits' flavors, so don’t omit it.
- Place each pureed fruit into a plastic sandwich bag for distinct layers, snip off a corner, and carefully squeeze into the molds.
- If you don’t have a storage bag, freeze the first layer, then wipe off the edges and cracks with a damp paper towel to remove any streaks from the previous layer. Pour in the new layer, then freeze.
📝Recipe FAQS
Cheddar is a classic choice for mac and cheese because it melts well and provides a sharp, tangy flavor. However, multiple types of cheese can elevate your dish. Examples are gouda, gruyere, and parmesan, to mention a few.
Yes, you can make the cheese sauce ahead of time. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat gently over low heat, stirring to maintain a smooth texture. If it thickens, add a splash of milk or pasta water, then proceed with the rest of the recipe.
Here is a list of cheeses that complement cheddar and a brief description to guide your decision:
Gruyère: Nutty and melts beautifully.
Gouda: Creamy with a mild, buttery flavor.
Parmesan: It adds a sharp, salty flavor, so hold off on adding salt until the end while adjusting for taste.
Monterey Jack: Mild and extra creamy.
Fontina: it adds a smooth and slightly earthy note and melts well.
To make creamy, not icy popsicles, use full-fat dairy like whole milk or Greek yogurt, and add sweetened condensed milk or stabilizers like cornstarch. Blend the mixture thoroughly and chill it before freezing to reduce ice crystals.
Once frozen, remove popsicles from molds, wrap them individually in plastic or wax paper, and store them in a freezer bag or airtight container, labeling them with the type and date for easy access and freshness.
