How to make Frozen Popsicles without popsicle molds
There are various ways to make homemade popsicles with or without popsicle molds.
If you don’t have a popsicle mold handy, you can use the following to make some DIY popsicles;
- Disposable paper or plastic cups
- Muffin tins: make sure to use a liner like a parchment paper.
- Yogurt container
- Loaf pan (line the pan with parchment, freeze for 30mins, insert the popsicle stick and freeze overnight, slice into wedges or cubes and enjoy),
- Cupcake liners (affiliate link)
- Shot glasses or plastic- If using glass, as soon as the pops are firm, remove them from the mold and let them stand in the freezer on a tray or bowl, so the glass doesn't crack.
- Large Ice cube trays
Top tips
Please be sure to cover the top with aluminum foil and freeze for 20-30mins before inserting the popsicle sticks so they stay in place. To unmold, run under warm water for 10-15 seconds, then gently pull the sticks.
If you’d rather use a popsicle mold to achieve those store-bought sculpted lines like the one below, you can get this budget-friendly one or the silicone one.
**Please see the recipe card below for measurement and servings.

Substitutes
As mentioned earlier, you can make these ice pops fit your dietary needs by substituting some ingredients. Please note that using milk that isn't full fat might change the texture of your popsicles. Full-fat is recommended for a creamier popsicle. Here are a few:
- Heavy cream: this can be substituted for coconut milk, full-fat yogurt
- Whole milk: sub with unsweetened Almond, 2% milk, soy, or coconut milk.
- Sweetener: Although I used swerve sweetener for one of the ice pops, you can use any of the following instead to achieve the same great tasting pops. Honey, maple syrup, agave, date, or good old regular granulated sugar (make sure the texture is fine, so it blends with the rest of the ingredients).
These fresh-out-the-freezer treats are sure to become your family’s favorite. I love homemade popsicles because I get to control the amount of sugar and skip on the unhealthy preservatives and dye from store-bought ones. I hope you give these fruit popsicle recipes a try.
